Recent Law Enforcement Effort in Volusia County Sees Results
A group of Volusia County law enforcement officers worked together to focus on stemming the tide of traffic violations throughout the county on October 12, 2012. The round up resulted in 14 arrests. In addition, authorities wrote 58 tickets for all types of traffic violations.
County authorities want to increase public awareness of traffic laws along with increasing the presence of law enforcement personnel in that area of the county. Some of the offenders, especially those with a history of arrests, were arrested and placed in custody for more serious crimes, such as possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest and probation violation.
Florida drivers often commit unintentional traffic violations simply because they are not aware that something is a crime. However, as the saying goes, ignorance of the law is not an excuse for committing a traffic offense. A partial list of traffic infractions in Volusia County will increase motorist knowledge and hopefully, lessen the commission of certain crimes. Drivers who have questions regarding any of these offenses need to review the laws. Just some of these include: speeding, DUI, running a red light, driving on a suspended license, reckless driving, drag racing, hit and run and driving with no insurance.
Penalties for traffic violations can range from the inconvenience of paying a small fine to sanctions upwards of $1,000. In addition, violators may need to serve time in custody and deal with the hassle of a suspended license. A conviction for DUI can mean the loss of a job and more expensive insurance. Some infractions result in mandatory counseling or community service hours. Excessive traffic tickets could result in the eventual loss of driver’s license.
